Miranda

My mind's sort of like a web of contradictions, fears, confusion, and possibilities. Sometimes, I get so tangled up in myself, I don't even remember who I was when I started, and I can't figure out what's happened since I began. All I ever seem to be sure of is that ever since I could pick up a pencil, words have been my friends. It's not every day you can record what you're thinking down the the very last T. And usually, when I write, some of my favorite ideas come spewing out of my consciousness, and splatter in to existence with the pixels, or the trees. I've always wanted to create something beautiful. Something precious, and new, and exciting, and eye opening, so profound, and so exotic that it could bring understanding and peacefulness at the thought of no answers.

First However, I think my eyes need to open first.

Jacob Tyler Edmunds has been my biggest inspiration in my life.
He has initiated my drive, and he has made me feel content and in love.

I want to make somebody feel wise some day.

But first I need NOT to want wisdom.

Jon

The name's Jon. Let's seeee... I'm fifteen years old and a sophomore, and really into Final Fantasy and writing (obviously)... I actually started out reading like crazy, reading anything I had gotten my stubby little hands on. After a while, I started to draw comics. My first one, "Adventures of Super Diaper Baby" was a huge hit. At least, with me and my brother. It was about a seemingly normal baby, but when trouble reared its ugly head (like evil babysitters, and diaper eating spiders), the normal baby would transform into SUPER DIAPER BABY! Well, after that I kinda gave up with writing, and comics. But, that wouldn't be for long. In the sixth grade I started writing a fantasy story, almost a rip-off of Eragon, but I didn't care. It was something to actually be proud of. I was also really into drawing at that time. I soon gave up with that though. However, my creative skills would be spawned from the dark depths of my mind once again, when in seventh grade I met Jake. Ah, good times. Like he said in his bio, we did comics, mainly spoofs of other things. I have no clue how Bill 2.5 (A spoof of Ben 10) even got started, but we did it. It was probably stupid in other people's eyes, but in ours we would think it was the greatest thing ever, and it was. We'd spend countless days in Spanish and Communications, trying to come up with new adventures for Bill and his 2-and-a-half aliens. We also did Ninjou, the Big Ninja (Ninji the little ninja), where they made remarks about their axes touching the top of the panel, and the only color was the tons of wasted red ink in which we took out the tube in a red pen and blew the ink onto the page, where we smeared it around so it looked like blood. As you can see, we were very creative. Also, we did a short story type deal, and mine was called The Fallen Ones (I think) and well, that was good until it died out. In the eighth grade I was too into playing video games instead of writing, so nothing exciting happened there. In the Ninth grade I started writing another book, which I quickly lost... And now we come to here, the present. I'm now writing better than ever, and I'm super excited to be a part of The Overlook. I'm still into the band, and when I get older I'm either being a writer or a lead guitarist, if not both. My writing style show some aspects about my love of fantasy, and I try to describe things so that people know what I'm talking about, because usually if I just say it then its really vague. Also, I usually use things that keep people in suspense, and I love using analogies in my writing. I hope to improve and become even better than I am, because I understand that there is always room for improvement, and The Overlook will really help with this.

Kayla..

i'm kayla, and i wouldn't exactly call me a feminine type of girl. i'm one of the guys most of the time. let's see, i love to draw abstract things a lot. i've always had a secret obsession with graffiti. my favorite shows currently are spongebob and the twilight zone thanks to derrick mccain. hm, i've had a rough past but a good present. i like to color, and i like trying new things sometimes. i have a couple addictions that need to stop. i don't really know how long i've been writing i just did it one day, but overall i like it a lot. i'm usually a happy person, but sometimes i can be mean. i grew up on overalls, fishing and flannels and since 6 i've always wanted to go to Australia, and i still am persuing that dream.

other than that, i've really been writing since i was little, in this little journal i've always had. but every time i went to a store, i'd have to get a new notebook, so it's really hard to keep track of what i've written so far. when i was little in like, elementary school i used to write short stories. the one i like the most is this story i wrote in a day about a girl named Molly who lived in London and worked at the Morgue and she did autopsy's for a living, and this one guys pacemaker was still going but he wasn't alive. i don't really think it makes much sense, but back then i had no idea. recently, last year, i started a little project, it didn't have a title at the time, but it was about this scitzophrenic teenaged kid named "Eddy" who went to run away one day to Australia on his bike. knowing he couldn't do that, he didn't care. on the way he meets up with 5 imaginary friends that are in his head telling him how to successfully get to his destination. my favorite character was scurvy, he had a $20 guitar and had scurvy, you know the vitamin deficiency disease. he was unique and him and eddie became good friends. i decided to start the book from the end with a journal entry that i no longer have, but i hope to start working on that again soon some day.

anyways, that's basically all the "projects" i've really done in my life. i'm inspired by isaac marion and basically any blog i read i get inspired off of. i like music, weird music, and i like weird people.

Derrick

Derrick McCain has been writing since he was little and has 12 stitches in between his forehead and chin. He lives in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and intends to stay there for a while. His favorite show is the Twilight Zone and his favorite logos are the Thundercats/ Decepticon logos. He hopes to finish his project living Lines by the End of this Year. He likes to play guitar and write.
As far as projects
The first thing his did was draw comics about bloody violent things
And his aunt suggested maybe a lesser gory root
So he decided to incorporate stun guns, tranquilizers and blunt type swords into my stories so nobody died
And she always said he'd be an author when he grew up
this sharpened his edges when it came to writing differently
Then he wrote about a superhero named Erick Simon Quaker, i.e. Quake who had the most versatile superpower in his opinion (the power to manipulate the earth from making mountains to throwing pebbles with his mind)
As i said it was half drawn half written
He also has a compilation of eighth grade works in a binder and was partly responsible for helping Jake on the Sitzkrieg book (by the way sitzkrieg means a period without war)
He also wrote several poetry books about all different subjects
The longest project he has FINISHED is the Barracks (24 pages) but is currently on as Living Lines, which is over fifty pages deep

Jake

So

before I had the ability to physically write, I was a story teller. My first "book" was a series of four year old drawings stapled together on crappy paper. I would narrate the story as I turned the pages and explained what they were.
Time moved on and as a child I loved to read (I still LIKE reading but its not my primary activity XD). So I read and read and realized, it would be fugging cool to have my OWN story. So in fourth grade I began writing scripts for comic books and my first substantial story (like derrick I followed the super hero theme) was
The Adventures of Lizard Man! It was great. I wrote several (very primitive I might add) stories of a man named Jay who turned into his alias, Lizard Man and fought various villains. It even came with its own illustrations! Beyond that I wrote stories involving pirates and such.
In sixth grade I began to read alot! And of course writing followed. Me and a kid named James would always come up with crazy ideas. I began to write several stories of my own.
Seventh grade,
Became good friends with Derrick and Jonny Boy!. Loved the kids. Derrick was famous for writing tons (as it seemed) in a series he called, Quake. Meanwhile I wrote the work I was most proud of for my age. I called it, The Awakening. It was a series of story "parts" each seperate volumes. Jon supported me throughout the project. However I never went far with it. Some of my best memories of this part in my life, was the hours me and Jon would spend writing comics together. To be honest only WE could laugh at the humor but I honestly will never forget it.
Eight grade,
Not much writing career highlights here. But, I must say, this is where I began to develope structure and style. This was displayed when Derrick, James, and I initiated a short lived project which was OUR interpretation of the 9th installment in the famous Halloween series (The chronicles of Michael Myers). I put alot of effort into this and for an eight grader (if I do say so myself) it was pretty impressive. This year was also dear to me, because Derrick, Matt, Jon, and myself began our "band" phase (which I must say we to this day still hold dear to our hearts). This was a chance to express the art of words in a poetic sense. This was a peroid of evolution of my writing.
Ninth grade began and high school started. Me and Derrick become very close as did our writing. This was when I developed a awkward love for expression through words and story telling. I began several poetry projects (Sitzkreig) and began writing my infamous, Slinger (no relation to the Dark Tower series by the great Stephen King) story. This milestone was the most of a story I had ever written. Over 30 pages of cheesy action. However, sadly this too died. This was the year I also began to develope ideas for Tragedy which was grown into Kaden's Musical.

Now here I am,
A sophmore currently. And now I must say, I want to be a writer for the rest of my life. As now, I look up the Stephen King for inspiration and I hold him in high regards. I feel he should go down in history right in between Edgar Allen Poe and the great Shakesphere himself. My style in my opinion follows a brisk tough straight foward tone. I try to hold chillin undertones and capture the esscence of our minds random paths. Many do not enjoy this style however I feel it is a great form of writing. I like to incorrporate cryptic and obscure imagery to help bring visual to the emotions we have not given names and cannot be described with plain words.

This is my journey in writing thus far,
and hopefully
I can add pages more unto this in the future.

Something Random

So when i was little i didnt like Scooby Doo that much
Like i watched it but it felt repetitive
I like A Pup Named Scooby Doo alot
but the rest felt...familiar
And then one day, I cracked the Scooby Doo code
There are three important aspects, the Monster/"Ghoul" The Witness and the Shady guy
Everybody always suggested the shady guy and at the end it always ends up being the "innocent" witness.
The only time it hasnt been done like that was when it was literally Old Man Jenkins
Like out of nowhere it was Old Man Jenkins
He wasnt even in the episode, but it was him
So yeah
This is why i dont watch Scooby Doo anymore
Except for A Pup Named Scooby Doo because they were all little
And Freddy always blames Red Herring
I watched that today
But yeah, theres something about me

This will be our Bio place...

I just finished reading the first post in Derrick's Barracks blog and he gave a nice little description of himself and how he decided he wanted to be a writer. This gave me an idea,
Wouldn't it be cool to say a little about ourselves, our style, our inspiration, and so on and so forth?
So here, I would like all of us to post first of all why we write and how we decided to begin writing. Also I would like your opinion on your style of writing and what inspires you. Mentors? and anything else that might go into a short biography.
I will be posting mine soon.
